The process of tracking down the snake pits was rather slow and difficult. Poor roads made it difficult to get to the forest and snakes are very good at hiding. They also faced the danger of falling into the snake pits by mistake. In the dense forest, there was little lighting and some pits had leaves covering them. Some of them are deeper than they appear.
